American Sailing Association (ASA) instructors are in demand all over the world. Starboard Sailing’s Instructor Qualification Clinics (IQC) are more than just an ASA certification. You already know how to sail, but how do you transfer your vast nautical knowledge to the next generation of sailors? In any Starboard Sailing IQC, you will learn how to prepare, present, demonstrate and evaluate the sailing fundamentals to your students. Sailing is fun and teaching sailing is even more fun.

Basic Keelboat 1 Instructor (ASA 201)
Starboard Sailing’s three-day 201 Instructor Qualification Clinic is the first step to becoming an ASA instructor. After passing the 201 IQC you will be able to teach sailing students Basic Keelboat 1 classes. You can then progress up the ASA instructor ratings to teach other higher-level sailing.
At Starboard Sailing, we not only qualify you for the ASA 201 rating, but we teach you how to teach. We will give you the educational skills and training to successfully transfer your sailing skills to new sailors.

Coastal Cruising Instructor (ASA 203)
This one-day qualification allows you to teach sailors the higher-level sailing concepts and skills for cruising sailboats. At the Coastal Cruising level you will teach aboard an auxiliary powered boat of approximately 25 to 35 feet. The advanced subjects include basic engine and boat systems, navigation, anchoring, docking and seamanship.

Bareboat Chartering Instructor (ASA 204)
At the Bareboat Chartering level, you will prepare sailors for that Caribbean or Mediterranean charter. Navigation, boat system maintenance and troubleshooting, provisioning, galley and head operation are all covered in a Bareboat Chartering course.

Catamaran Cruising Instructor (ASA 214)
For the Catamaran Cruising Instructor rating, you will prepare sailors for that Caribbean or Mediterranean charter aboard a late model catamaran. Catamarans motor and sail very differently than monohulls, and teaching catamarans for that future charter is exciting.
